Today 12 Zonarians and 1 Zonarian spouse headed to Angelines Womens Shelter in downtown Seattle. When they described to us what they did they said they “meet women where their need is”. Angeline’s is a transitional housing and shelter for women. The provide housing, meals, counseling and a host of other services for women. Something that struck me today was that these women could be any of us. Many of them had careers and just fell into really tough times and need a hand up.
Today we stacked boxes, helped to prep for lunch service, chopped onions, cut chicken, swept, cleaned, restocked shelves and served 2 lunch shifts. We served around 100 women between the 2 shifts. It is clear to me that the need is there. One thing that struck me was the young man who runs the kitchen. He is the only full time kitchen staff and had such an infectious positive attitude. Made me think of our first world problems, when he is trying to figure out what to make out of noodles and green beans. I appreciate the TDC Leaders for allowing their teams time out to go and volunteer and I am sure I speak for everyone who went today…we are ignited and want to do more.
