Zonar has been named a finalist for the 2017 Seattle Business Magazine’s 7th annual Tech Impact Awards competition in the SAAS category. Zonar beat out dozens of other great companies in the Pacific Northwest and everyone here is ecstatic at the accolade. We will find out Tuesday, September 26th at Seattle’s MoPOP in front of a VIP audience of 275 tech leaders and senior executives if we won.
But on to why we believe we have been named a finalist.
Zonar helps keep our roads and children safe by keeping fleets safer, more efficient, with less greenhouse gas emitions as well as keeping children safe and secure.
In pupil transportation, the Zonar Z Pass solution, in particular, delivers peace of mind by providing real-time data on when and where kids get on and off the bus bridging the gap of when a child leaves home and is in the care of the school. Recently, an 8-year-old Spokane girl was reunited with her parents because of Zonar. Arianna Harris was reported missing to local law enforcement and Spokane Public Schools after her parents had feared she got on the wrong bus. School officials quickly located Harris using Zonar’s Z Pass solution. The ability for a school district and law enforcement to identify the location of missing student as quickly as possible can be paramount to child’s safety and parent’s peace of mind.
Another solution that has a tremendous societal effect for our school children is Zonar’s EVIR. In addition to being a tool to ensure drivers are conducting pre- and post- trip inspection which ensure that vehicles are in full operation condition, EVIR can be configured for a child check. When EVIR is configured for child check, drivers must manually contact or scan the device at the interior back of the bus to confirm the completed visual inspection before finishing their shift. EVIR is one of the only solutions on the market to comply with California’s Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law which was established in recognition of a Whittier School District student who passed away after being left unattended on a school bus for several hours. Under the new law, schools are required to equip all buses with a child safety alert system to ensure all students have exited the bus upon ride completion.
In addition to the EVIR inspections, the HD GPS Zonar provides school districts with insights on buses exact location and driver behaviors including if the driver was speeding, or idling for longer than rules permit.
Overall, schools who have installed Zonar technology have experienced:
• A 45% idling reduction to increase environmental consciousness and reducing costs
• A 50% speed reduction for safer travel
• Real-time fleet and student tracking, giving parents and administrators peace of mind
• Historic and real-time data on fleet location and bus arrival times
• Streamlined pre-and post-trip inspections resulting in an average annual savings of $110,000 per district
Zonar also has had a significant impact in commercial trucking which represents over 13 percent of the U.S. economy, and it is only growing as more and more of the products and services people come to expect are delivered rather than bought at a store. Zonar’s fleet management solutions help keep trucks on the road in safe efficient operating conditions. Additionally, new mandates such as the Electronic Logging Mandate, which was in part generated after the tragic car vs truck accident that Tracy Morgan was involved in which killed his friend and severely injured him. In that incident, the truck driver had driven more hours then he was legally allowed to and fell asleep while driving his truck. The ELD mandate requires that drivers electronically track their hours of service. The Zonar Connect an ELD ready device addresses this mandate and helps keep truckers compliant and our roads safer.
Vocational fleets reap the same benefits that pupil and commercial truck fleets do. In fact, construction fleets alone are 17 percent less likely to have a fatal accident if they employ the use of EVIR. Henkels and McCoy, a construction company, in deploying Zonar technology – including the company’s V3 telematics solution and tablets with EVIR across its fleet was able to track and recover its fuel assets with pin-point accuracy, enabling them to achieve up to an estimated 150% ROI for their total technology investment through fuel tax credits. Prior to deploying the Zonar solutions, H&M was recovering an estimated 20-25% of the fuel for which they were accounting. With the Zonar solutions on board in 2015, that recovery estimate more than tripled to approximately 98.9% accuracy, resulting in significant improvements in fuel trackability and the anticipated recovery in one year for their overall technology investment.
Additional examples of Zonar’s impact this year alone comes from The Nebraska Transport Company and the Adams 12 Five Star School District which experienced a tremendous impact from installing Zonar. Nebraska Transport Company, a freight company, achieved a more streamlined pre and post trip inspection, ELD and AOBRD compliance and improved driver accountability from using Zonar. Adams 12 Five Star School District was able to receive real-time route optimization, improved compliance, maintenance, and safety by deploying Zonar smart fleet management technology.
