Anyone scheduled to be on the road this June 7th might want to take some extra care and preventative safety measures. That date, along with October 11th, tends to be the most dangerous time to be on the road if you’re a truck driver.
For the past three years, more truck accidents happened on those two days than any other days of the year, says the company. In the U.S. there were 397 collisions on those dates over a three-year span.
On June 7th, the highest odds for a truck being in a fatal collision will occur between 7 and 10 pm, with 31% of tracked fatalities taking place at that time. This is unusual compared to crash statistics for the rest of the year, when an average of only 1.3% of accidents occur at dusk.
Problems with vehicle tires were the top cause of the collisions (43%), followed by brake issues (25%) and other vehicle faults (15%).
So if you are headed out on a trip on June 6th, use a little extra caution and make sure you do your pre and post trip inspections.
