There is only one week to go before the ELD Mandate goes into effect.
As crazy as it may sound, according to a new survey from PrePass, which provides weigh station bypass technologies and surveyed 1,620 drivers, owner-operators, and fleets between November 30 and December 5, almost half the respondents said they had yet to select an ELD.
And 26% said they weren’t convinced the mandate would take effect.
Those surprising figures mostly like represent a lot of wishful thinking, as it is extremely unlikely that the rule will be set aside or postponed anymore.
If you are a carrier and your drivers exceed 100 miles radius, hopefully you have been preparing and are ahead of the game regarding what you need to know before the mandate goes into effect.
The good news is that if you are a bit late to the game, you still have a week and the ELD transition will probably take longer than you think with the CVSA issuing guidance on out-of-service criteria being delayed until April 1.
That, however, does not change the need to partner with the right ELD vendor to ensure that your transition goes smoothly, particularly since the FMCSA does not verify ELD compliance or performance. There is no guarantee that the vendors listed on the self-registered ELD list are or will be compliant. Be sure to choose one that is self-certified, 3rd party validated and has completed the FMCSA’s end to end file transfer testing. But equally as important as having an ELD solution that works, having a team behind you that can help you develop compliance-minded policies and procedures for your fleet, help train your drivers, help you navigate a roadside inspection and be a resource for all things ELD and trucking compliance.
